DIY Giant Floor Pillows
I will show you how to make these comfy giant floor pillows with my easy and quick DIY sewing tutorial!
Goodness knows that my two boys can’t sit still on the couch for very long. They always seems to end up on the floor when they are watching TV. But the problem is that our textured sisal rug is not exactly comfy for lounging on.
We aren’t a huge TV family but I am hoping that, with summer vacay just around the corner, the boys might want to start their day with a show or two so that I can… say… have my coffee in peace, or sleep in a little, or read my favourite blog?!? I figured that I better find a way make sure they were comfortable… So now that I have made them their own super comfy DIY giant floor pillows, I think that problem is solved! Am I dreaming here?
If you have been reading for a while, you might know that I sure LUV ME some pretty fabric. I may be a “bit” of a fabric hoarder. And I am most certainly a complete-pillow-addict. Like, at today’s count, I have 22 throw pillows in circulation on the main floor (living/dining/bedrooms) plus another 9 on the deck. So like, 31 throw pillows in a 1600 square foot area. Not bad, right? Bwahahah.
All this to say, when Riley Blake offered me the perfect opportunity to partner with them on a project showcasing their gorgeous Home Decor fabrics, I was thrilled. Pumped. Jumped at the opportunity. I mean, it’s fabric, people. Seriously.
So I perused. And perused some more. You have to head over and check out for yourself their gorgeous Home Decor fabric line. It is so fresh and clean and fun. I just love the variety of colours!
The lovely fabrics I selected were:
And for this DIY project I used… {I have other plans for the rest of them… bwahahaha}
I started with these two soft giant pillow form inserts (they are 25″ by 25″}. The pillows were purchased at Fabricland but Ikea has some REALLY nice giant pillow forms that are feather, if you have the chance to get to an Ikea.
I always measure my forms before cutting my fabric – just to be sure. Never trust the label!
The AWESOME thing about the Riley Blake Home Decor fabrics is that they are a full 60″ wide. That is so amazing!! To sew an envelope pillow, you need to double the width of your pillow (in this case 25″ x 2 = 50″) and then you want to add a good 6 or 8″ for overlap to make sure your pillow covers don’t gape out at the back. Well, most home decor fabric is only 54″ wide- which means that you would not be able to get one extra large envelope pillow out of one full width of it. But the Riley Blake fabrics, being 60″ wide, were absolutely perfect for this application!!
Yay! So easy- they literally took me 15 minutes for the BOTH of them!
To make these, just follow my super detailed and super easy one-piece envelope pillow tutorial…
I promise you will love how these super comfy giant pillows will turn out.
I sure do!! And isn’t the fabric so pretty and perfect with the rest of our living room colour scheme. I love the vibrant graphic nature of the Riley Blake fabrics- and the Home Decor fabric was lovely to work with.
My boys certainly can’t get over their new floor pillows… So perfect when you own a bumpy sisal rug that isn’t quite-so-comfy to lounge around on.
Inspired? Ready to try these for yourself?
Riley Blake has teamed up with a whole group of bloggers to share some fabulous projects that they have made with the Riley Blake Home Decor line… I can’t wait to see what everyone else is doing with their fabric! It’s always awesome to get some more inspiration about what to do with my hoard neat-and-tidy-stockpile of fabric.
LOVE this tutorial. I am trying to do this right now with spiderman flannel on one side and minky on the other. Would you put your envelope opening on the spiderman side or the minky side???? I’m so conflicted. LOL I think my son is going to love cuddling both sides and I’m scared the opening will be annoying to lay on. HELP!
They look so comfy, the boys I’m sure are all over them! The colors & patterns of your fabrics are my favorite!
Great idea, and the boys look so happy!
Nothing better than a bit of DIY. I love the spotted design.
