DIY Pom Pom Napkin Rings

Today I’m sharing a quick and easy DIY tutorial for how to turn some yarn and a cardboard paper roll into adorable pom pom napkin rings.

Do you like to host big holiday dinners, or prefer to leave that job to someone else?  We often host our extended family for big fun family meals and gatherings during the holiday season but thankfully our family is always happy to share the workload and bring food to share.

With our kitchen and eating area opened up and renovated it makes for a perfect holiday gathering space and we are excited about hosting everyone for Christmas this year.  Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing some simple ideas for creating a welcoming and pretty holiday table, including an easy DIY centrepiece (because who needs anything complicated during this busy season)!

Holiday Crafting

As I mentioned yesterday, when I shared my DIY Christmas Light Tree Ornaments, I got into some Christmas crafting this past weekend and I whipped up some sweet pom pom napkin rings to use on our holiday table.  I think these white yarn pom poms are super fun and festive.  They kind of remind me of mini snow balls except for the fact that they don’t melt all over the place.  And you won’t believe what I used for the “ring” part…

I started by making a bunch of pom poms out of some fluffy white yarn using my pom pom maker.  You can pick one (or a set) of these up at a craft store or order a  Pom Pom maker set from Amazon…

Just follow the easy directions and next thing you know you’ll have a small pile of cute fluffy pom poms in the colour(s) of your choice.

To make the “rings” for these napkin rings I actually just cut a sturdy, cardboard wrapping paper tube into 1.5″ wide strips using a serrated kitchen knife.

A cardboard roll, knife, pencil and ruler laid out for the tutorial.

I then wrapped them all the way around with yarn, using my hot glue gun to attach the yarn to the inside of the cardboard ring.

Once wrapped, I attached the pom pom using a good sized glob of hot glue, and spreading the pom pom kind of flat on the bottom so that the glue is attached to the interior part of the pom pom.

Super easy, and cute, right? I love the soft fluffy white texture of them, and think they look perfect with my DIY double sided cloth napkins. I’m looking forward to setting our Christmas table with them and with these cute little plaid dishes that I found that combine red and blue (a favourite Christmas colour combo of mine).

Fun, right? The fluffy white texture looks great with the winter wonderland feel we have going on in our Christmas decor this year.  I can’t wait to share more of it with you!

As I mentioned, today I’m joining some friends who are also sharing their cute winter and holiday pom pom projects! I love all of these ideas!  Pop over to see the full DIY tutorial for each by clicking on the links below the pictures…
