Vintage Neutral Farmhouse Style Fall Mantel Decor

Today I’m sharing my neutral farmhouse style fall mantel decor with a vintage rustic feel as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Series fall mantel decor ideas hop.

I have to confess that I actually started thinking about this mantel decor back in August.

Around these parts, August is most definitely still considered summer as we don’t go back to school until after Labour Day, but I just felt ready for a change.  Maybe I was mentally making the transition back to school, or maybe it was because the summer had been somewhat cooler than usual, full of many more cloudy days.

Whatever the reason, I was feeling the pull to ditch my tropical leaves and greenery for more earthy neutral golds and tans. Of course, as with almost any mantel or vignette design, whether it be for fall decor or another season, I generally start my inspiration with art.  This year’s inspiration came in the form of the vintage neutral farmhouse style free fall printables that you see on today’s fall mantel…

I’m excited to be hosting the third week of the Fall Seasonal Simplicity Series today!

There is a ton of beautiful fall mantel and vignette inspiration at the bottom of this post, so be sure to hop around and see what my fellow blogging friends are sharing…

So where do you begin when it comes to seasonal decorating changes?  I love to take inspiration from a piece of art or some fabric and build from there.  The beautiful vintage fall printables that I shared the other day were the perfect place to jump off from when creating this neutral modern farmhouse style fall mantel decor.

I didn’t buy one new piece for this mantel decor and shopped the house (and my fall totes) for all the pieces you see on the mantel.  Even the acorn garland was a DIY that I re-used from last fall, and I love the way it looks with the printables.  I generally use more colour in my seasonal decor, but these warm neutral tones just felt right this year…we don’t have any cotton plants where we live, but their colour and texture seem perfect for fall, regardless!

I love how I got to incorporate my wheat stalks again. They are a fave and I was worried (after packing them carefully through the move, much to my husband’s chagrin) that they wouldn’t find a home this fall.  But the sides of the fireplace called for something, and I thought they were a perfect fit.  Especially since our gas fireplace, unfortunately, doesn’t actually turn on so there is no danger of fire hazard until we manage to get it replaced.

Now let’s just hope the dog doesn’t decide to chew on the wheat. I’ve been battling to keep her from chewing my potted outdoor fountain grass all summer.

As I mentioned, I shared these fall printables on Monday (and they are now available to all my email subscribers in the printable vault).

I made the pine cone and acorn garland last year – you can read the DIY here.

Are you feeling ready to decorate for fall?  Have you already started (and finished?!).  Or are you holding onto summer kicking and screaming? I guess it depends a lot on what the weather is like in your neck o’the woods, but with mornings like these around here…

Shared in my Instagram Stories the other morning during my morning walk.

…Fall is definitely in the air already.

I know you are going to love all these beautiful fall decor ideas today!  I invited you to hop around and check out what my talented blogging friends have done to decorate their fall mantel or to create a lovely fall vignette in their home…

Today I’ve been joined by some of my blogging friends who are also sharing their Fall decor ideas through their Fall mantel decor or Fall Vignette.  Just click on the links below the images to see more…

  1. Krista, this is smashing and spot on Autumnal mantel decorating. Thank you for the inspiration. Cheers, Ardith (apparently with my British alter ego)

  2. This year I am trying to do relaxed transition from summer to fall. Still really hot here in N.C so my outside decorating is just a bronze colored faux wreath of our native muscandine grapes on a grapevine wreath. My inside I have done the kitchen and family room but these will get more autumn color as the weather cools down and pumpkins and gourds nature in my garden .All planned way ahead of time in my head while reading all the clever blog ideas. Thankyou.

  3. oh you have me itching to paint my fireplace! love how the wood pops against the black! we probably won’t get to it this year, but i can’t wait…. i didn’t join this hop because it’s so ugly right now. 😉
