20 Fabulous Kitchens Featuring Grey Kitchen Cabinets

Today I’m sharing a collection of fabulous kitchens featuring grey kitchen cabinets; either as the main cabinetry throughout the kitchen or on the kitchen island or lower kitchen cabinetry.

I’ve been such a huge fan of the classic all white kitchen for many years now.  So much so, that I definitely thought we would do all-white again when it came time to tackle the kitchen renovation on our new house. But I also knew that we really wanted to try installing an Ikea kitchen… and when I spent some time at Ikea perusing all of their cabinet options, I definitely liked the Grimslov Grey the best of all their choices.  Not only is it a really pretty, soft grey colour but the doors are solid wood with a painted finish.  I love the feel that a solid wood painted finish provides; there is a definite warmth to it.

The other day I shared the inspiration board, sources and plans for our new kitchen which includes the Ikea Grimslov Grey cabinetry…

With the cabinet style and colour chosen, it became clear that we were going to do a grey kitchen this time around. Once I got my head wrapped around that idea, I started researching and exploring all kinds of ideas for designing a kitchen centred around grey kitchen cabinetry.  And I was surprised by how many beautiful kitchens I found featuring grey cabinetry.

Today I’ve gathered together some of my favourites to share with you…

Quite a few beautiful kitchens I found featured grey cabinetry either on the island, with white cabinets on the main body of the kitchen.  We are planning to do the reverse; using grey cabinetry throughout but planking the island with white.

I love this crisp white kitchen with a grey island.  The wood floors add a definitely warmth, along with the section of butcher block on the island:

Another example of an all white kitchen with a grey island; I love the way that these homeowners alternated the countertop colours.  Black on the perimeter with the white cabinets and a lighter cream colour countertop with the grey island cabinetry.  What an island, right?!

A lovely, fresh and simple kitchen makeover featuring light grey cabinets with a classic farmhouse sink and butcher block cabinets.  This kitchen makeover was thrifty and affordable but came out looking very soft and lovely.  The white walls and light wood tones keep it crisp and bright.

This kitchen features grey perimeter cabinetry (with amazing chef’s kitchen style appliances), and the island is planked in white.  Ours will be similar, except that our cabinetry is a softer and lighter grey colour.

I absolutely love the grey island and grey lower cabinets in this kitchen, which are complimented by white upper cabinets along with white on the tall banks of cabinetry.  I considered doing that option but decided it would be a bit too choppy in our space due to the design of the kitchen.  The whole thing is warmed up beautifully with the pops of warm woods and those bar stools! I love those stools!

This stunning all grey kitchen looks amazing with the gold hardware and lighting, and I love the fresh white countertops and backsplash.  We will be using a lot of white in our space along with pops of gold and natural brass, though our cabinet colour is a lighter grey than this quite dramatic charcoal tone.

This kitchen features perimeter cabinets in a soft, buttery grey with a dark blue-grey island; such a pretty and unique combination.

In this simple, classic kitchen makeover the lower cabinets were painted out with a dark grey and the uppers kept fresh and white.  The white subway tile adds an extra pop of crisp white as well and keeps the small space from becoming heavy.

This stunning and huge kitchen looks gorgeous with piles of light grey cabinetry and all kinds of natural brass in the lighting, hardware, and shelving.  The beautiful, natural rustic planked floors add definite warmth to quite a glamorous feeling space.

These grey kitchen cabinets have an elegant feel due to the feet on the sink cabinetry.  The whole space has a custom feel to it, complimented by the unique backsplash tile and beautiful appliances.

Soft, light, bright and airy are words that come to mind in this beautiful open kitchen featuring soft grey cabinetry.  The large island is warmed up with a classic butcher block countertop.

I absolutely love this modern yet classic feeling kitchen design with grey lower cabinets and white uppers.  The counter to ceiling backsplash tile really makes it pop, and I like the way the dishwasher is built in with a cover panel on it to match the rest of the lowers.  Those bar stools! I would love them, but my husband really wants stools with a full back this time.

My friend Rachel from Maison de Pax designed her kitchen with a beautiful mix of grey lower cabinets, white uppers, natural brass finishes, miles of marble, and a warm and rustic wooden kitchen island.  I wouldn’t change a thing!

This grey kitchen looks like it features the Ikea Grimslov Grey cabinets that we are using, paired with crisp white paint and subway tile to keep it light and fresh.  The copper light fixture definitely adds a unique touch!

I have to say that the glass cabinet doors and natural brass/gold hardware and lighting definitely elevate this grey kitchen cabinetry to the level of elegant.  The classic crown moulding detail adds to the overall elegance of this space as well.

Charcoal grey with stainless lighting and hardware and patterned grey stone counters give this kitchen a cooler feel than some of the other ones we’ve seen.  I do like the built-in wine rack above the long counter, and the island hood fan blends quite seamlessly with the rest of the space (which is hard to achieve).

Grey stained wood cabinets look super modern and the black and wood shelving along with the wood panelled ceiling lend this kitchen an industrial feel.

Tasha at Kaleidoscope Living updated her kitchen with grey paint on the cabinetry as well as new hardware and industrial modern cage style lighting.  What a great way to give an older kitchen space an updated feel!

The warmth of the brick/stone wall (or tile) around the stainless steel farmhouse sink gives this grey kitchen cabinetry a level of warmth and a rustic touch that classic white tile definitely doesn’t provide.  It feels like this kitchen would be completely at home in a brick heritage row house.

    1. Hello,
You need to visit the post that is linked just below that image to find the original source as it might tell you. I would also check places like All Modern or Joss and Main for a similar stool.

  1. how will I know that the pendant lighting that I purchase will be the right size for my kitchen and island? My lights are carriage pendants that have dimensions of 12″ widest part of the pendant by 19″ high. My island is 36″ wide by 98 inch long. My ceilings are 8ft high and the width of the room is 115ft from face of cabinet to cabinet.

  2. Could you please share the paint color of the Magnolia kitchen cabinets? Above the photo you wrote, “This kitchen features perimeter cabinets in a soft, buttery grey with a dark blue-grey island; such a pretty and unique combination. ” Thank you so much!

  4. Wow this is such an awesome article, thanks for sharing!

The Grimslov Grey colour choice for your cabinets was a great choice and matchs the rest of the kitchens so well. Would you say this is one of your favorite colours to work with?

I have suggested to many of my customers that grey fits very well with most kitchen styles and then tend to go with it.

  5. I loved all of these! I am so excited to update the cabinets in our kitchen. I thought for sure we would have white cabinets for the rest of our lives since I love the look so much, but those two-tone designs are beautiful! We are considering a refinishing job after I found this article. What do you think? Is replacing the best option?
