Main Bathroom Makeover Inspiration {One Room Challenge}
Hello! I have an exciting new project that I am about to begin and I can’t wait to share the “befores” and the “before befores” as well as my Main Bathroom Makeover Inspiration and plans for refreshing it with you today! I am super excited to be taking part in this round of the One Room Challenge (also known as ORC) is hosted by Linda of Calling It Home.
The ORC is a challenge in which bloggers attempt to makeover one room in their homes in the period of six weeks, sharing their progress along the way. In fact, the challenge is actually less then six weeks because week 1 is the before/intro to the project, and week 6 is the actual reveal. Over the next six Thursdays (including today) I will be sharing a makeover project or the progress on a mini-makeover on our Main Bathroom.
If you have been reading for a while, you may remember that I completed the One Room Challenge last spring when I focused on making over my Craft Room. Well, this fall I’ve decided to focus on a slightly smaller project. It’s a room that I decorated immediately after we moved into this house; and which isn’t in too “bad” of condition right now… but it just feels like it could use a refresh.
I decorated our Main Bath with a nautical feel and in a colour scheme to match our boys’ bedroom because it is their main bathroom. We have an ensuite as well, but guests need to use the Main Bathroom so I felt it was time to change it up and give it less of a little boy’s bathroom feel.
When we moved into our house, our main bathroom looked like this…
We already:
1 – Removed the shower doors (but we haven’t actually patched the screw wholes yet – shhhhh.
2/3 – We took down the gigantuan medicine cabinet with the horrendous built in lighting that made the room feel about 4 feet wide. Oh wait, it is about 4 feet wide. We replaced it with a flat mirror that we trimmed out ourself with some MDF, and added a new Martha Stewart light fixture from Home Depot.
4/5 – We replaced the one piece countertop and faucet with a quart countertop, undermount sink, and new faucet.
6/7 – We replaced the cabinet doors (NOT the entire cabinet). I was fortunate enough to have my Dad built us some new cabinet doors to fit the existing vanity.
8/9 – We painted the upper walls in a Benjamin Moore Colour called Glace Bay, and installed headboard about 2/3 of the way up the walls. It is painted out in cloud white (same as the cabinetry).
Here is how it is looking about now…
I know! Not too bad, right?!?
I’m actually planning on moving the shower curtain and art work down to the basement bathroom because it could use a little love as well.
And I just feel like I want to give this space a little more of a crisp, clean, classic feel because in addition to being the bathroom our boys use; it is also the Main Bathroom for guests.
So, I’m thinking something along these lines….
I’m absolutely loving the dark/crisp contrast of this navy and white bathroom…
I love the rich wood as well, though I don’t think we will be changing out the vanity any time soon.
I’m thinking Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore…
But I may even go with some stripes like in this bathroom…
Basically, even though this room isn’t actually a bathroom, the whole feel of it is what I would like to achieve…
I wonder how much my boys would object to some coral accents in their bathroom? I know I would love it.
I think I want basically navy and white with a few hits of these colours mixed in. The grey already exists in the current tile in there…
And one thing we definitely need? A new shower head! One that comes off so I can actually clean their tub properly. Grubby little boys that they are.
The PLAN!!
- Install a new showerhead
- Paint the walls (stripes? no stripes?)
- Find a new shower curtain and towels
- Make some art
- Find some accessories
- Hooks for the side wall for their towels
- Wrap it up!
I’m pretty thrilled that this seems like such an easy project- hope it goes as smoothly as it should:) (You know how projects never do…).
I’ll be back next Thursday with an update!
Until then, you can head over to Calling it Home to see what other participants in the One Room Challenge are going to be tackling in the next week.

Your craft room last season was one of my favorites! Can’t wait to see how this bathroom turns out. Love your ideas for the space!
Thanks Erin! I did some planning and shopping this weekend so I feel like it is coming together a little bit better… I can’t wait to check out your newest ORC!
This seems like a great ORC project. And I highly recommend Hale Navy. It’s a favourite for a reason.
Thanks Julie! I am pretty excited to see it up on the walls!
I adore both your inspiration photos – this is going to be fabulous!
Thanks Melissa! I wish I were as planned and organized as you… I have some inspiration but its not quite as clear as I would like it to be at this point – considering that we are half way through week one!
Such awesome inspiration Krista, I love the navy blue! I know it will be amazing, cause that is just how you roll! Heck, I think it looks amazing already, my bathrooms are jealous. 🙂
Thanks so much Mindi! I know the room isn’t bad at all- I just feel like a little change:) And it’s such a small space so it shouldn’t take too much to give it a whole new look!
Love the colour palate and that inspo with the wood vanity is gorgeous. Good luck!
Isn’t is gorgeous! I love the wood mixed with the navy and white. I’m thinking that the hubs wouldn’t go for a vanity makeover… but you never know:) lol
Oh my gosh! LOOOOOVE the navy Krista! I’ve been dying to try something with it in our home too! Cannot wait to see how this all comes together!
I’m SUPER excited about the navy too Kristi- I’ve been wanting to do it somewhere for a long while. I love the strong contrast of navy against white!
