Natural Rustic Scandi Style Christmas Tree Decor
Decorating our Christmas tree with natural rustic Scandi style decor touches.
To keep with the alpine natural rustic Scandi style feel I wanted to achieve, I worked with white, light neutrals, and light wood tones as well as texture. It’s definitely more of a maximal Scandi style than the typical minimal Scandi style with just candles and dried orange rings, but I’m admittedly kind of a maximalist when it comes to the holidays.
This tree feels like just the right mix of natural, rustic and Scandi style in our cozy snowy themed holiday living room! It includes many of the same elements that I used last year, with just a few new touches to give it a slightly different feel. The fun part of bringing out the totes each year is rethinking your decor items and keeping it fresh by reusing things in a new way. But the biggest change in itself, aside from our new location in this house, is the new tree! Details below…
This week I’m also excited to be joining a group of talented bloggers who are sharing their Christmas tree style guides with you as well. I love this hop series each year; it’s so fun to visit all the posts and be amazed by how many different ways there are to decorate your Christmas tree in a unique and beautiful way. Be sure to visit the links I’ve shared at the bottom of today’s post to take in all of these creative Christmas tree decorating ideas!
Thanks to my friend Stephanie, from Casa Watkins Living for hosting this series. You need to head over and see her fun and festive Boho Coastal Tree! If you came over from Monica Wants It then welcome. Next up, after me, on this loop of beautiful Christmas trees, is SKG Designs,
As I mentioned above, this year I ended up buying a new Christmas tree, as our older flocked tree became the ghost of Christmas past part way through the holidays last season. The lights gave out, which definitely takes away from the cozy ambiance that we are all looking for over Christmas. I am hoping I might be able to remove the lights and salvage the tree to use in another room in our house, but more on that another day.
And… one plus side to this whole saga was that I got to pick up a beautiful, new alpine style lightly frosted tree that I absolutely love! Here is how it looked before I decorated it…
I love the way that the branches splay out like fingers and gently arch downwards with just a light snowy frosting on them. It just reminds me of a cozy alpine Scandi Christmas and makes me want to light all kinds of candles and relax with a warm drink in front of the fire.
One of my favourite things to add to my trees the past few years is a snowy feeling garland made out of a very surprise element: dollar store feather dusters!
I first learned this trick from my friend Lucy at Craftberry Bush, and bought my local dollar store out of stock a few times before I had amassed a collection large enough to support my Christmas tree habit…
So I don’t really own an entire tote full of these! There are some other ornaments below them in the tote… but it still is a rather large collection of feather dusters;) I just love how they add all kinds of warm texture to the tree. I think they really ups the hygge factor and create a kind of alpine wonderland feel. To put them on, I just play around and layer them in between the branches until I’m happy with the look…
Next come the floral pics and extra greenery boughs; I like to prop these in the tree poking out and slightly upwards, so that they add some interest and texture as well as add to the natural shape of the tree.
After those beginning elements, I start to layer in my decorations. They key elements of Scandi style design that I incorporated are:
Neutral and light colours
Light and warm wood tones
Decorations inspired by nature and animals
Intricate wood cut ornaments
Delicately patterned designs
Cozy hygge details
I think all of these Scandi style details work together beautifully to create a natural rustic snowy alpine feeling Christmas tree. I made a little video to give you a closer to real life experience of it…
Want to remember this? PIN it for later!
And here are some of my other Christmas tree decorating ideas that I have shared over the years…
It’s fun to look back and see how the same ornaments have been reused in different ways to create a fresh look. The last couple of years I’ve definitely focused on a neutral, light, and white tree with Scandi style elements. I definitely love the way it’s played out this year over the past years, but which one is your favourite? Pop over to see them by clicking the images below…

I absolutely <3 Love your idea and tree and decoration look very attractive. Thank you.
Do you know where I can buy a rustic christmas tree – one that has the bark for the center and base? I see some online, but not very high quality.
Can you share where you purchased this tree? I love it!
Hi Phyllis,
It’s from Canadian Tire – if you live in Canada you will know where I mean. If not, then it is by NOMA – it’s called Pre-Lit LED Snow Dusted Alpine Christmas Tree. I hope that helps! Krista
feather duster idea is perfect. Thanks for the idea!
Your tree looks like you just chopped it down on a Norman Rockwell type of snowy morning. I absolutely LOVE it!
Your tree is so beautiful! How stunning!
The tree shape is pretty on its own but I love the “snowy” details you added!
Krista, I love your white tree! So fresh, it makes me want snow!
I love how real the tree looks on its own already and all the decorations are perfection. I remember Lucy’s duster garland (I too ran to the dollar store but couldn’t find any LOL) and it’s the perfect touch for your tree. Your tree is perfect for a winter wonderland.
Krista this is beautiful! I love the alpine theme and the garland is so snowlike! The dala horse ornament has to be my favorite!! So beautiful
