Beautiful & Affordable Dining Room Serving Area

eCome see the dining room serving area that I have put together!  This is a very affordable look!

For a long time now I’ve been keeping my eye out for the perfect dining room server. Do you remember the old sofa table that we were using in the narrow space along the short wall in our dining area for a few years now? It is a cute piece, but was never particularly useful.

It’s main function was as a pretty vignette/display area {which of course, is useful to me}… but come time to host friends and families for get-togethers or dinners, it’s usefulness was minimal. In my dream of dreams, I would have room for a large hutch and display cabinet in our dining space.

But the reality is, that this little space in our home is fairly narrow and I like to leave a wide, comfortable opening between the buffet and the dining room table. So I wanted to find the perfect compliment piece in the perfect size and colour at the perfect price point. You could say that I had some pretty specific criteria when looking for a new piece to create a functioning dining room serving area….

Given my specific criteria around what I was looking for, I found the Idea Boards on Wayfair.ca the perfect way to gather together ideas.

I spent a good amount of time shopping the buffet options available to me, that fit within the size constraints I have. I wanted it to be a max of 55″ wide and 15″ deep. Thankfully, when narrowing down the million options on Wayfair, you can plug your dimensions in and they only show you the items that fit within the criteria you are looking for.

I narrowed it down to a few buffet cabinets…

I really wanted to create a cozy, welcoming bar and serving area in our dining room for the holiday season, so in addition to the buffet I was looking for a few serving pieces that would work well for a holiday gathering like a wine and cheese party.

Plus I also wanted to add some extra comfort to our seating with some new tufted upholstered end chairs. The fun part was adding all my finds to my idea boards, and then picking from amongst my faves! You can check out my Wayfair Idea Board for the other options I found in addition to the ones I chose…

So many pretty decor items! And so fun to see how well they all work together (or, alternatively, to get rid of the ones that don’t work well together on your idea board)…

I’m so excited about using this new serving area in our dining room this holiday season and beyond. For today, I’ve turned it into a holiday lovely bar service area for a holiday party or gathering. I also created a little fun printable for this space that I’ll be giving away soon, in case you want your own copy…

I’m thrilled with the Charlotte console that we chose; the french grey colour is such a pretty greyed blue tone and works beautifully with the rest of our coastal decor colours. It also coordinates very well with the new hall console table we chose for our entry hall. You can see that here!

I love our new tufted upholstered chairs; and I really wanted some that were lower profile so that we can see over them easily when looking out at the lake from the living room. Also I was going to go with a neutral beige once again, but I really stepped out and took a risk by ordering them in the Light Sky colour. I absolutely LOVE them, and they work perfectly with the blues in our kitchen.

This tiered serving tray is going to come in handy for serving appies or desserts during the holidays, and I think I’m also going to lend it to my good friend as a cupcake stand for her wedding.

I’m also really excited to have a wine and cheese slate for serving with; it also makes appie planning really simple – just grab a selection of nice cheeses, some grapes, and some crackers and you’re good to go!

I love our new dining room serving area and can’t wait to put it into use during the upcoming holiday season and beyond!
