Cozy Moody Scandi Christmas Tree Decor

Cozy touches and moody colours add to the casual elegance of this year’s Scandi Christmas Tree Decor.

Wow, it’s been so long! I’ve taken several months off from sharing anything on the blog, and it feels pretty strange to be back here again. But with the holidays approaching, I always find so much inspiration and I wanted to pop in and share a few Christmas related posts with you all. So I’m starting off the season with some details about our main living room Christmas tree. This year, we reused our Scandi style Alpine Christmas tree, but created a slightly cozier and moodier feeling decor style using lots of warm finishes, natural wood, deep coloured ornaments, and a hint of black!

It works really well in our living room, which has had several updates since I’ve shared it last, including a new black coffee table. I’ll share our Christmas home tour soon, and you’ll see where this cosy Moody Scandi Christmas tree inspiration comes from.

Thanks to Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living for hosting this Blog hop. I haven’t taken part in one for many months now, and it feels good to be back doing something I love. This past year, I’ve had a very busy spell between managing the build of our cabin,  taking coursework towards an Interior Design Degree, managing our busy family of two (now teenage!) boys, and teaching full-time again. This hasn’t left much time to share details about the decorating and DIY‘s in our home, or even to make many changes! In fact, I haven’t even shared our full cabin tour with you yet. I plan to get to that in the new year, along with a lot of the other details about things that have been changing around here. But some of my favourite articles to share are definitely the “how-to” and inspiration kinds of articles. Today’s is an inspiration post as I know many of us are turning towards adding some darker and moodier colours in our decor.

It seems that white and light and gray, while still beautiful, are definitely being challenged by the cozy moody trend. I reused many of the same ornaments from previous years but did add a few new wooden pieces and some additional wood garlands. I like the natural feel they bring, as it works well with the Scandi style of the Christmas tree.

These tones also feel like they really suit the current house we are in. Because we live in a neighbourhood that backs on a forest we don’t get a ton of natural light into our kitchen and great room. To be honest, this has been a source of dismay for me as I’ve discovered it’s very difficult to photograph our home with the poor natural lighting that we have. But with all the Christmas twinkling lights, I think it will be easy to share pictures of our home with his cozy, moody feel. This tree has taken inspiration for those codes, cozy and moody colours with a lot of natural wood, browns and hints of black throwing in. It feels rustic yet elegant at the same time.

And of course the foundation of our Christmas tree always begins with the dollar store feather duster snowy garland.  Can you believe it is literally feather dusters from the dollar store that I pulled the handles off? I just curve them and tuck them in all over the tree, where I feel it needs a little bit of cozy texture. Next I layer on the garlands (wood beads, black wood beads, and brass bells, this year). I top it off with a sprinkling of ornaments. You don’t need many once you’ve got those initial layers in place.

As I mentioned, some of my blogging friends are sharing their tree inspiration today, too. Thanks to Stephanie from Casa Watkins Living for organizing this!

Make sure to hop around and check out their gorgeous trees and get all kinds of ideas before your holiday decorating begins!
