Friday’s Faves

It’s Fri-YAY!

Last weekend I went away to Victoria overnight with some friends and took part in the Times Colonist 10K race, after a 15 year hiatus from any kind of race. I’ve trained on and off for the run since January (with several weeks of OFF), so I was a bit nervous! But…..I managed to complete the entire thing running, aside from one 2 minute walk around the 6k mark! I wasn’t fast, but I plugged away and ran at my own pace, and it felt really amazing to accomplish this feat again after so many years of not running.

Of course, as a result of being away Saturday and Sunday for this run, I’ve been running behind all week! And the weeks, now that baseball season is in full swing, are very full. So I’m doubly excited that today is Fri-YAY because it’s my  “work at home” day and I’m going to be finishing off Finn’s bedroom design and photographing it to share with you all next week!

It’s been really beautiful weather outside so I’ve been pretty obsessed with thinking about our deck and the outdoor spaces in our home this past week… drawn to all things pretty and cozy outside.

If you’re in the mood for an absolutely drool-worthy backyard tour, then check out my friend Rachel’s yard at Maison de Pax!  #goals

I’ve also been itching to get outside and start working on getting our yard back into shape. My outdoor pots are calling my name and can’t wait to be filled with summer greens and blooms!

A couple of years ago I planted a simple herb garden for our deck

I think I’ll tackle the front porch pots later today with some long lasting shade plants. We don’t get much sun on our little front porch as it is tucked away under cover, but there are some really beautiful shade perennials available that I think I’ll use.

Last year I shared all kinds of beautiful shade garden inspiration when we were in the throes of planning our side garden…

We have to go away again all weekend for a soccer tournament, so I’ll plan to get my sunny pots created the following weekend, which is also Mother’s Day weekend! Sunny pots are so fun to do because you have such a variety of plants available. I think I’ll incorporate a lot of grasses again this year, and I also would love to do a sweet little hanging succulent garden somewhere, like this one front Garden Therapy...

This past week some friends and I were bantering about how fun it would be to do a girl’s trip this summer and I suggested camping! They were a little less then impressed, but imagine how fun it would be to go camping (or should I call it “glamping”) in a trailer like this one by The DIY Mommy? Re-doing a trailer is still on my list of hopes and dreams! (is that weird?)

All that blue and white!!

Makes for the perfect summer colour combo, don’t you think?

If you are looking for some pretty (blue!) summer pillows, then Pier One has a BOGO sale right now – buy one get one 50% off! I love this indigo pillow with jute trim

Combined with this beautiful indigo batik tasseled pillow… (after all, it’s BOGO!)

I’ve also continued to shop and look and look and shop for the “right” conversation set for our deck. My favourite right now is this one

I really like the warmth of the wicker colour; it seems like grey is super popular these days but I’m still drawn to a warm natural colour. I also like this set from Pier One, and like that is has a variety of configurations available…

But Costco also has a beautiful one that I’m considering, though it’s quite pricey! Eek! The cost has definitely had me delay a decision, though I hear from friend’s who’ve purchased Costco Outdoor furniture before that they are over-the-moon with the quality…

I’m liking the sofa set style

And the hubs likes the sectional

Which style would you choose?

Hmmm?!?!? So. hard. to. pull. the. trigger.

Well, it’s off to drop my boys at school, hit the garden center, and then finish off Finn’s room today! Hope you have a great one, friends…

  1. I would love to have some comfy seating for my deck, but oh the prices! I’m curious to see whether you go with the sectional or sofas.
