How to Style a Simple Spring Mantel or Vignette

I love decorating for spring! Here is a fun tutorial on how to style a simple spring mantel or vignette for spring.

Hello friends!

This is an exciting week around here!

I finally got down to business and the house is fully spring-ified. I’m loving how cheery and fresh and colourful it feels. Did you get a chance to check out our spring living room tour yesterday? The new pillows I picked up kind of set the tone for the rest of our open concept living space. Cheerful and flowery with pops of spring colour!

Styling A Mantel For Spring

I had so much fun this past weekend putting together our simple spring mantel and a simple spring vignette on our new dining room hutch. You don’t need a ton of accessories or to spend a pile of money to create a welcoming and cheery feel! So, today I want to share with you my basic recipe for simple spring styling.

Today I’m super excited to be hosting a fun group of my home decor blogging friends who are also sharing their spring mantel or a spring vignette in their home! You can check out all the amazing ideas and inspiration at the bottom of this post!

And if you are new here and have hopped over from one of the other bloggers on this tour, then welcome! I am thrilled to have you! You can learn more about me and this blog here.

Cheery Pops Of Color

You may be able to tell already that I’m kind of a color girl… I have tried to use more neutrals in my decor at various times, and I always return to color. Again and again. And spring is one of my favorite times to use all kinds of beautiful pastel color. Blues (always), pinks, and this year I’ve even added in some pops of soft lilac and purple.

To create a simple spring mantel and vignette, I followed some basic guidelines:

1) Start with a simple backdrop and crisp foundation

As much as I would love to NOT have a TV on our mantel, it definitely makes me focus on keeping everything else around it fairly simple. There just isn’t enough room to crowd it with all kinds of accessories. On our mantel, there isn’t a ton of extra room, so I generally stick to a few items of varying height. I grouped my tall glass vases with some magnolia branches (from Michaels), along with my classic farmhouse style candle sticks and a simple green mason jar full of flowers

There is a small TV and flowers flanking it on the mantel.

On the dining room vignette, I started with a beautiful fretwork framed mirror, and went from there. The buffet, itself, is a new find (Costco!!), and I’m so excited about how it looks in our space. I used simple, large white vases on either side of the mirror as foundational, grounding pieces.

2) Add flowers or seasonal greenery

As beautiful as fresh spring flowers are, they don’t last forever,  so I like to invest in a few bunches of really good quality faux blooms each year. As my collection grows it allows me to add seasonal touches throughout the house. On the mantel, I’ve currently got fresh tulips, but I’ll add in some faux branches in between their life span the the purchase of any new ones. I also used faux magnolia branches because they’ll last me all season long!

On the dining room vignette, I stuffed an Ikea bucket with gorgeous fresh hyacinths and I have to admit that I will be saddened when they go! I’ve never yet found good quality and realistic hyacinth blooms in the faux flower aisles:)  I added fresh tulips on one side, and I’ll sub in some faux peonies when they are finished. I also found adorable little egg branches (not sure how else to describe them?) at my local dollarama and they are stuffed in the tall handled vase on the buffet. Simple, and full of colour and cheer!

3) Dot in decorative seasonal accessories

Don’t go overboard with over accessorizing, but a few pretty or unique items can add a hit of fun and whimsy to your vignette. On both the mantel and vignette I used an old newel post as I love the character and springy colour they bring.

A couple of small bunnies, on our dining room hutch, add a cute Easter feel to the display, and can easily be switched out for something more neutral after the Easter weekend has passed.

You can also consider adding a banner, bunting, or garland to give a seasonal feel. Last year I created the speckled egg garland that you see in the dining room vignette, and it adorned out mantel. It’s found a new home this year, and can easily be switched out or left plain for the remainder of the spring.

See?! Creating a beautiful and simple spring mantel or vignette is as easy as 1-2-3!

And, as I mentioned above, today some of my friends are sharing their beautiful and inspiring Spring mantel decor or a Spring vignette.
