Pretty & Functional Small Entry Ways

Here are some creative ways to add pretty and functional to small entry ways in your home.

Pretty is great.

Everyone loves a beautifully decorated space; large or small. Of course huge grand foyers can be beautiful, inviting, and create that perfect welcome for family and guests.

But small entry ways pose their their own special set of decor challenges. Especially if you have a small entry and you USE it. Like, really USE it… for all your household to come and go from.

We are fortunate that we have a back door through the laundry/mud room that leads to the garage so that we have a way to hide all our family junk. We mainly use our small foyer for welcoming family and guests. But even so, there are a few essential elements that I want this space to have; and I’ve been itching to make some changes in our foyer.

So today I’ve gathered together some fantastic ideas for creating a functional and pretty small entry way or small foyer…

If you have the tiniest of spaces, then simply adding some handy hooks and a chair may be all you need. I love the horizontal panelling they added in this sweet little entry hall via Saw Nail and Paint.

A tiny nook by the door makes for the perfect spot to tuck a bench, and a rolling cart is a great place to tuck shoes or other outdoor accessories. The organizer above could be used for hanging coats and sorting mail, or placing things that you need to remember to take with you when you leave. Via Little House of Four

One of my favourite tiny entry way walls that is absolutely full of character is this pretty small entry Via The Wicker House.  If you have a tiny space like this, then why not add beautiful details like the numbered hooks and decorative display box. Plus, how great is that door colour?!

Slightly larger and full of charm is this gorgeous entry with painted pew Via Shades of Blue Interiors.  I love the storage in baskets underneath, plus the hooks and shelf above. If we had the space, I would have loved to have a pew in our entry but ours is just that little bit too tiny…

I love the brilliant use of the tiny wall behind the door in this small entry way Via Jenna Sue Design Co. I’m thinking of trying something similar (a DIY shelf project) versus using a console table in our entry way… but I’m not quite sure, yet! I love the contrast of the dark door with all the white panelling, and the pretty and decorative mirror is the perfect way to make sure you don’t have jam all over your face as you head our the door in the morning.

Turning a coat closet into a functional mini-mud room is a great idea! You could fairly easily do this with the closet at your front entry, though I fear if this was our main entrance, we would have it jam packed with coats and shoes in no time. Via This Old House

Simple but full of the essential elements, this tiny piece of walls serves as an awesome small entry space Via Hymns and Verses.  And how great is that welcome sign that incorporates antlers??

Pretty much a dream is this gorgeous small entry way Via Nina Hendrick. I’d love to create something like this in our mudroom, though I must admit it wouldn’t stay this pristine for long! Built in hooks and shelving could be created in the tiniest of entry walls, though, and would help add a ton of function and storage to a small entry way.

A planked wall with a built in sitting bench and hooks would be perfect in a small entry way – especially if you tuck some storage beneath the bench. Via Life on Virginia Street

Pretty much my other dream is having an entry way large enough for a pew. Hmm. Not sure if I can call this one a small entry way, but it’s so great, I  had to share it! Via Lolly Jane

So pretty and simple, this little entry way bench Via Ella Claire would be perfect if you have a shoe and coat closet near by. The baskets under the bench could store all that extra stuff you need during the winter months!

An awesome and beautiful use of a tiny space behind the door is this functional wall of hooks Via Via Home Stories A to Z. Installing your hooks on white panelling adds so much character and grounds a tiny space.

Our small entry way is currently undergoing some changes. It’s had quite a few different looks; none of them I’ve been entirely satisfied with. I’ve recently picked up a new piece for the foyer, which has thrown me into a round of musical furniture.

In my most recent fall home tour,  I had our long white console table on one side of it…

And a wooden chair near our hooks…

But since this is such a small space, I found it a bit too tight and crowded to have furniture on either side of the entry hall.

For a long time before that, we had one chair and a tiny table on the one side, and only hooks behind the door…

Now I’m not quite sure where we are headed next… but hopefully somewhere good! For such a tiny space, it’s proved one of the trickiest to “finish”!
