Summer Decorating Ideas for Outdoor Entertaining

Today I’m sharing some beautiful ideas for creating a welcoming outdoor space to host family and friends as well as some outdoor entertaining and outdoor party decorating ideas.

I think that outdoor entertaining is the best kind of entertaining.

Just last evening we hosted a close group of family and friends for my Dad’s 75th birthday celebration, and as everyone gathered for a pre-dinner drink and appy, we all gravitated towards the deck and our outdoor entertaining area.  Once the sun comes out and the weather warms up, it feels so good to be out enjoying the outdoors again, so it’s natural that outdoor parties are such a hit.  And hosting an outdoor party or event can be super fun to style and decorate, as well.

Today, some friends and I are sharing our best ideas and tips around creating an outdoor space that is welcoming and beautiful for outdoor entertaining and hosting parties in.

And even if your plans for entertaining are more casual then large parties, you can still create a super welcoming outdoor space to enjoy with friends and family.  Kristi shared her ideas for creating  beautiful outdoor rooms at The Pickled Rose.

At our previous home, we had setup our outdoors for all kinds of entertaining.  From relaxed family dinners to larger barbecues and parties.  As we work away on fixing up our new deck and backyard, I definitely feel a twang of sadness for the outdoor rooms that we had carved out at our old home.  But it’s also fun to look back at how they came together (they didn’t start out looking like this!).  Some of my favourite outdoor posts are…

Ya, okay, we do miss that view!  But we also absolutely love the convenience of our new home and I look forward to sharing the progress we’ve made on our back deck to turn it into a welcoming outdoor space.  It certainly worked for us last night, as we all enjoyed our pre-dinner cocktails in the shade while the kids swam in the pool and played catch in the backyard.

I hope you’ve found some ideas for helping you turn your little corner of the outdoors into a welcoming and beautiful spot to host friends and family, whether it be for a small outdoor party or large scale outdoor entertaining event!
