15 Gorgeous White Kitchens with Coloured Islands
Here is a collection of the most gorgeous white kitchens with coloured islands that pop!
Kitchen renovations are probably one of the most complicated design projects that homeowners often tackle on their own. A kitchen renovation involves SO. MANY. LITTLE. (and big!) DECISIONS! There’s the layout, cabinets, countertops, hardware, lighting, shelving, flooring, fixtures, appliances, accessories… the list goes on. And since kitchen makeovers are often a MAJOR (and expensive) project, you want to make sure you are making the right decisions so you don’t end up redoing it all (or even some!) for a looooooong time!
I’ve been helping my friends plan their DIY kitchen makeover, and because they are keeping the current cabinetry and layout, some of those decisions have been made for us. So the planning process instead involves working with what is existing to create a kitchen that feels young, fresh, bright, and customized to them. And I’ll tell ya, “them” definitely involves some colour! These two are a super fun young couple with a beautiful little baby girl, so they deserve a dynamic and fun kitchen that reflects who they are.
Here is the kitchen that we are starting with, in case you haven’t read the other posts in this series about DIY painted kitchen makeovers, coloured cabinetry, and open shelving options.
The other day I shared kitchens with painted cabinetry, and for a time we talked about painting all (or even the lower cabinets) in their kitchen. But once the primer went on and they saw how light and bright the white looked, we decided to stick with the original plan of adding a bright pop of colour on the island. So today I’ve gathered some beautiful kitchens with coloured islands to help them, and you, decide what dreamy colour of painted island speaks to you for your kitchen dreams!
Let’s start with the elevated blues, shall we??
I love the boho farmhouse feel of this eclectic kitchen Via White Buffalo Styling Co. and the bold turquoise island with a gorgeous live edge countertop certainly is the focal point of the space…
This kitchen has a slightly coastal farmhouse feeling and is much lighter and softer with the grey-blue shade they chose for the island Via Digs Design Co.
Also a beautiful fresh blue and, again, more subdued is this blue island in a white kitchen Via bhg – the nickel hardware and grey glass tile give this white kitchen a calm and slightly coastal feel.
How fun is this pop of turquoise in a vacation home kitchen Via QualCraft – I love the matching vintage feeling fridge as well…
This light filled white kitchen with a coloured island Via bhg features a smoky dark grey-blue tone and other fun pops of colour, like the yellow kitchen stools and fun striped rugs.
If navy is more your scene…
Beautiful, crisp, and stunning navy island in an all white kitchen Via House of Jade Interiors – the brass fixtures and deep, rich navy definitely elevate this kitchen from white farmhouse to city chic.
Beautiful, but definitely more traditional and slightly formal feeling is this white kitchen with a deep navy (almost grey) island Via Houzz
If you are looking for a more neutral colour, then consider grey or black for your kitchen island. These beautiful examples show that grey and black drama works in all kinds of kitchen designs.
This white kitchen with a charcoal grey island has a modern industrial farmhouse feel Via Schoolhouse Electric on IG – we have those same stools at our house and I love them!
I love the grey lighting and the light grey island in this stunning light filled white kitchen Via Homebunch
Classic, cozy, and warm, the grey kitchen island in this white kitchen Via Our Vintage Nest breaks up all the crisp whites in the room and pairs nicely with the white countertop and farmhouse sink.
I love how airy, bright, and clean this stunning kitchen with a grey island Via Park & Oak Design on IG feels – the planking and the X design really adds to the character of the island.
I love the wood planked ceiling, walls of subway tile, and charcoal grey island in this farmhouse kitchen Via Pinterest – let me know if you know the original source please. The warm wood shelves and bar stools keep it from feeling too cold and white.
If you are a fan of black and white, then you will swoon over this stunning black island Via AKA Design – her farmhouse kitchen makeover is perfection for all you neutral and black and white lovers!
A softer take on a black island is this beauty Via Our Faux Farmhouse on IG – mixing in the grey tones and the warm woods gives it an aged and cozy feel.
Not everyone has a kitchen island – but that doesn’t have to stop you from adding a hit of colour to your kitchen!
We added colour to our peninsula by planking it, adding chunky corbels, and then painting it with a Benjamin Moore colour called Wedgwood Grey…
Well, what do you think?
What colour would you paint your kitchen island?
I love the gray and white kitchen. It looks so pleasing to the eyes. Wish my kitchen was that big so I can make mine like that as well.
I love the white kitchen with the grey island counter top! Have always been a fan of industrial looks with a modern touch.
Living in a small 3 room apartment these kitchen islands are so gorgeous to look at but i dont seem to have ample space for it.
Pinning this post till i get enough space for my upcoming apartment.
Wow!! love to watch these kitchens. Very beautiful!!
Can anyone tell me the color of the island and where to purchase ?? I’m obsessed !!
Thanks !!!
A galley kitchen, one with two parallel counters, is a classic design that has survived for decades. While it’s often the most efficient setup for a kitchen with limited square footage, it works just as well with some additional space, too.
Love the ideas you share.

I love these islands, but my current kitchen is too small for one so I was excited to see your peninsula. Wedgewood gray is gorgeous. I’m pinning it for future reference. Thanks!
