Choosing the Right Lighting Combination for your Kitchen Renovation

Today I’m sharing how I chose the light fixtures for our kitchen and adjoining eating and dining areas for our recent modern boho farmhouse style kitchen renovation.

I think it goes without saying that proper lighting is a really important factor in the overall feel and design of any space in your home.  Older homes, like ours that was built in 1969, tend to lack overhead lighting in the living spaces.  We rely on lamplight throughout our entire living room and tv area, which is okay because it creates a feeling of bright coziness. Needless to say, even though statement lamps in the kitchen are currently trending, we did not want to rely on that kind of lighting in the kitchen.

Because we undertook such a major renovation (you can see the before and after main reveal in this post), we had the opportunity to completely rework all of the plugs and lighting.  We hired a local electrical company for this part of the project, and I’m so glad.  We now have a beautifully illuminated ceiling with adequate pot lighting, and then selected specific areas to add decorative fixtures.  Matching pendants over the island and sink with a coordinating sconce flanking either side of the window, and new larger pendants over the eating nook and dining room tables.

Kitchen Lighting

I didn’t just go online and order a series of lights; instead I spent a good deal of time perusing the build.com website to select lights that would work well and complement one another but that were unique from one another.  I was thrilled to partner with build.com on a few aspects of our kitchen renovation, because I love the selection of high quality lighting that they have on their site for affordable prices.  I also find it really easy to peruse and shop their site because of the ability to favourite anything you like, then go back and look again and narrow down your options.

Today I’m sharing all kinds of statement lighting that I considered using for our kitchen renovation, which I like to call “modern boho farmhouse” style.  It’s a little bit modern, a little bit boho, and a little bit farmhouse all rolled into one.
