Friday’s Finds: Cute Storage Baskets {& Organizing Our Living Room Shelves}
Good morning, friends! Guess what? I’ve started!!
Yesterday I shared all about our main goal of the year: finally getting really organized!
I shared my plan for getting your entire house organized in ten weeks….
And I decided to tackle the most organized space in our home first.
Does that seem counterintuitive to you? Well, it makes sense, really.
Don’t start organizing with your most chaotic, difficult area.
Save that for your second project. Or even further down the road.
Instead, start with something small. Something manageable. Something that you will notice everyday. Organize that area; and take some energy and encouragement from that first, small success.
So I decided to start in our living room; because we really don’t have much in there aside from the things we use daily.
Except for the baskets. Those baskets on the shelves…
I had a couple of grey toned Ikea baskets and a slightly larger darker wood toned basket. And they were pretty crammed with junk…
Two were full of cards and games; another three were filled with wires and headphones and various electronic items.
I took everything out of them and purged a ton of stuff that: (1) we didn’t need (2) we don’t use (3) we don’t even know what it is or where it came from or (4) is broken and can’t be fixed. It all went either to the garbage, recycling bin, or to the donation pile.
After the purge was done, I put back some new little water hyacinth baskets that I had picked up so that all the baskets on the shelves would be of the same tone.
I grouped like items together…
One of the bookshelves has the electronic storage items; headphones, charging cords, and additional electronic equipment we need to keep on hand (like our landline phone… for those winter power outages).
And the other bookshelf has baskets that store the small tabletop games, cards, learning cards, and a couple of album and video keepsakes…
Nice and calm and organized, right? I also like how the new baskets match and the colour/tone of them ties in perfectly with our floors, bamboo blinds, and the other basket tones we have in the living room.
When you need to store things out in your main rooms, it’s nice to have baskets that are cute and work with your decor style!
So today I’ve collected some cute (and many affordable) options for storage baskets if you, too, are tackling an organization project these days!
It’s good to start with purging and figure out exactly WHAT you need to store before you buy your baskets, so that you can customize the size and number to what your real needs are.
I hope you find just what you need!

I love the simple change! I, too, am in the middle of a major house purge/re-organization, and my first room was also the living room. I totally agree that it’s often better to start with an easier project!
Hi Amy! Yes – it’s great to feel some early success:) It motivates you to keep going on the big stuff! Good luck with your purge and organization!!
