Dark Traditional to Light Bright & Airy Kitchen Makeover {Confessions of a Serial DIY-er}
I am sharing with you this amazing kitchen renovation that turned a dark traditional kitchen into a light and bright room!
Hello everyone! If you have been following along for a while then you know that things are all about kitchens ’round these parts these days. We are still knee deep in our own kitchen renovation (it got put on hold by our “rental project”) but that has just wrapped up and I have several big makeover projects to share with you soon! In the meantime, Spring Break has arrived, and we are taking some time together as a family (I will be sharing what we are up to on Instagram over the next couple of weeks). While I am gone I have lined up some fabulous kitchen tours from a few of my favourite bloggers who have great success in building or renovating their own dream kitchens. I just know you are going to find amazing inspiration in this series. Today I want to welcome over my friend Christy from Confessions of a Serial Do It Yourselfer. You may already know Christy from the monthly DIY Challenge series that we both take part in. I had the chance to spend some time with her at the Haven conference last July and it was truly a highlight of the whole trip! Christy is as fun, friendly, and down-to-earth awesome as she seems on her blog. I just hope I get the chance to hang out with her again one day!
Hi there Happy Housie readers! I’m Christy from Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer , and I am so excited to be visiting here today to share my kitchen makeover!
I can’t wait to see Krista’s big kitchen reveal. She has a brand spanking new kitchen, and in comparison, mine is more of a patch job. I had a big list of what I wanted for my “new” kitchen, but apparently those things cost a lot of money. Who knew? So here’s what you can do when you have a tight budget…paint! Let’s start off by sharing the before… That picture was taken as I was starting to prep. Not a terrible kitchen, just dark. This side of our house doesn’t get much natural light so it always feels dark and a little gloomy. Painting the cabinets was the perfect way to lighten and brighten up this space! So much brighter, even at night. Here’s another view before: And the dramatic after kitchen picture: Another thing I did in here that made a huge difference and was very easy on the budget, was replace the raised panels with glass in one set of cabinet doors: I am loving the results, so much depth and dimension! Such a huge difference for not a ton of money! You can see the complete kitchen makeover and more photos here:

Nice to see your kitchen over here Christy! What a huge difference a can of white paint can make. Love your island too and the chalkboard menu.
I love the toaster cover.
