DIY Christmas Light Tree Ornament

Today I’m sharing how to make these cute DIY Christmas Light Tree Ornaments as part of the Seasonal Simplicity series DIY Christmas Ornament ideas hop.

It’s starting to feel a bit like a winter wonderland in our living room.  Two trees are up and decorated, and this weekend I spent some time crafting up a few new things to add to our Christmas decor this year.  I know it seems early, but I like to get organized and all decorated for the holidays in November so that in December I can focus on enjoying the parties and concerts and gatherings.

If you saw my DIY garland post last week you might know that I’m loving the cute shape and classic look of old school styled Christmas tree lights.  So when it came time to come up with a DIY ornament idea, I wanted to use them again.  I’m even more excited about how these ornaments turned out than I anticipated, and I’m thinking they’d make a super cute little gift idea for co-workers and friends.  I’m working on a free printable card to go with them, so keep your eyes peeled for that in the next week or so.  Until then, you can get busy crafting these quick, easy, and thrifty to make DIY Christmas Light Tree Ornaments!

It’s week two of the Seasonal Simplicity Christmas series, and it’s all about DIY ornament ideas! Today a group of my blogging friends and I are all sharing our DIY Christmas Ornament projects to help inspire you to get crafty for the upcoming holiday season.

To create these I used some glass (traditional style) Christmas tree light bulbs, twine, greenery/pine cones/berries, and my glue gun.

If you can’t find any Christmas bulbs that work with your Christmas colour scheme, you could also easily spray paint the bulbs to create even more custom DIY ornaments.

All the supplies for the DIY tutorial.

Begin by wrapping the threaded pieces of the ornaments with twine, using the hot glue gun to attach it.

Winding twine around the base of the Christmas lights.

Wrap it up around the top, and use the twine to create a loop at the top to hang the ornaments with…

Then add some embellishments of your choice.  I had a package of faux greenery/pine cones/berries that I attached to the twine part of the ornaments using my hot glue gun.

Done!

I’m excited about using these on our flocked tree this year; the classic and traditional Christmas colours work really well with the pretty plaid ribbon that I picked up at Walmart.

I also think these would be really cute little gifts for people!  I plan to create a free printable gift card to go with them and will share that soon.
