DIY Dollar Store Crafts: Mini Cloche Christmas Ornaments

These DIY mini cloche Christmas ornaments are a simple dollar store craft to add a cute touch to your Christmas tree this year.

Whew. We have had some BAAAAAD weather this fall. Rain and rain and more rain. It’s so DARK out almost all the time. I absolutely can not wait to get our house all hygge with some serious Christmas lights!

I usually get our tree up the second week of November, and this year I’m really excited to have a few Christmas trees that I’m planning to do. My youngest even wants his own Christmas tree in his new bedroom. Today I’m sharing a cute little DIY ornament idea that I think will be perfect for our cozy family room Christmas tree; these DIY mini cloche Christmas ornaments made from dollar store finds.

It’s also the second week in my Seasonal Simplicity Christmas Series and I’ve been joined by some of my talented blogging friends who are sharing their DIY Christmas ornament ideas with you. Be sure to check out their awesome ideas at the bottom of today’s post!

Even though you can buy so many cute ornaments these days, I always find it part of the build-up to the holiday fun to make my own. I’ve made a few different ones over the years that I’ve absolutely loved and it’s a joy each Christmas season when I open up my totes and find those special ones.

Here are a few of my other DIY ornament faves from Christmas’ past…

For today’s sweet little DIY Cloche Ornaments….

Mini cloche with Santa and snowy scenes inside.

I used the following materials, plus some twine and some burlap looking ribbon that I had in my stash…

The supplies for the cloches.

The mini faux-cloches were picked up at my local Dollar Tree – be sure to check yours out to see if they are carrying them this holiday season! I picked up the cute tiny bottle brush trees and tiny gold bells at The Dollar Tree. The little Christmas village figurines were from Dollarama, and I had the snow leftover from last year – I purchased it at Walmart. I also had a smaller bag of faux snow with a few sparkles in it, that was from Dollar Tree.

Here’s a little video on how I put these together…

I started by building up a cardboard base for the figurines and trees to sit on so that they would sit up higher and be more visible inside the cloche.

The supplies spread out on the table for the mini cloche.

To build it up, I cut small rounds out of some white cardboard that I had on hand (it was actually from a Delicio pizza box that I grabbed out of my recycling bin).

Drawing circles on paper.

I layered them together with hot glue, allowing the glue to create a bit of space between the layers.

Using a hot glue gun.

You’ll want to make sure there is enough of a gap between the cardboard and the lid that it will still screw onto the cloche piece properly, as below…

Gluing the cardboard together.

I then placed all of my little characters until I got groupings that I thought looked cute, and glued them onto the cardboard.

I put a bit of faux snow inside the cloche piece…

And then twisted on my lids with their little village characters and trees!

Super cute! The snow sticks a bit to the edges of the plastic cloche piece, but most of it falls down naturally to the base.

To give these Christmas ornaments a more finished, upgraded look I added some burlap style ribbon around the base. I then used twine with a little gold bell as the hanger instead of the thin string they came with.

Super cute, right?

And they were super easy and lots of fun to make!
