Late Fall Mantel with DIY Burlap & Feather Wrapped Mason Jars

Happy November 1st to everyone: I hope you all had a fabulous Halloween!! I was pretty excited to take down my Halloween décor and move back into calm-old Fall mode… and today I can’t wait to share the Burlap and Feather Wrapped Mason Jars that I created to decorate our new late fall mantel.

Burlap and Feather Wrapped Mason Jars for Late Fall Mantel

This was a super easy project. To create these you need:

  • Mason Jars
  • burlap ribbon (or strips of burlap)
  • feathers
  • twine
  • hot glue gun
  • scissors
  • embellishments (I used scrabble tiles to spell out FALL)

Supplies for making burlap and feather wrapped mason jars at thehappyhousie

  1.  Start by cutting your burlap ribbon so that is will wrap completely around your mason jars.
  2. Then fold your burlap strip (or ribbon) to the size you want it to be and use a little dab of hot glue to hold it in place.
  3. Arrange the feathers how you want them – I grouped two of my printed feathers around one white feather.
  4. Attach the feathers with a dab of hot glue.
  5. Wrap some twine around the jar at the bottom of the feathers.
  6. Finish it off with a little embellishment (like my scrabble tiles) if it strikes your fancy!

You’re done!

These were fun to make and are the perfect addition to our Late Fall Mantel.

I used a pretty neutral palette this time around- there is just something so cozy and fallish about using natural elements like pine cones, wood rounds, feathers…and I even threw in an old broken paddle that recently floated in from the lake.

I’m pretty in love with my little Mr. Squirrel collecting his acorns (he looks like he would give you a good fiery hiss if you tried to pry that baby away from him:)  I picked him up early in the fall at Home Sense (Home Goods) for $12. But because he is so cute I thought that was a total steal (start the car!!!!).

My boys’ were super avid about collecting the pinecones for this mantel- it was such a fun activity for a beautiful, sunny fall afternoon.

I re-used my Faux Chalkboard burlap bunting from our Early Autumn Harvest Mantel… it is so versatile! I just simply wiped off the old chalk with a slightly damp cloth and then used my chalk pen to write “gather” on the black cardstock ‘chalkboards’.
