Modern Boho Farmhouse Spring Decorating Home Tour

Today I’m sharing our spring home tour as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Spring Series; our modern boho farmhouse style spring decorating and home tour.

Wow. What a crazy couple of weeks!  When I sent my weekly email last Friday, I shared how we had just cancelled our spring break trip to Mexico and were getting ready to hunker down at home for the next couple of weeks.  We have the next two weeks off for the break, but it’s questionable at this point whether we will even go back after that time and seems likely the break will extend beyond the two weeks.

During this difficult and kind of scary time in all of our worlds, when we really do not know what exactly lies ahead, home has become even more of a haven for our families.  This week, as my blogging friends and I share our Seasonal Simplicity spring home tours, I can’t help but feel that it is timely, as so many of us are currently spending a good deal of time social distancing and at home these days.  As the sun streams in through our living room windows, lighting up the cheerful spring decor touches that I have added, I am reminded that there is a beauty and a power that is beyond all of us and all of this, and take comfort in the small things that go along with being home with my family.

I hope that you can find joy in “home” during this time and that our tours this week inspire you to create a place that you love to be in with those who are most precious in your life.  Wishing you all the greatest of strength, endurance, and health during the weeks ahead, friend.

My decorating style has become fairly eclectic since moving into this house.  While it still maintains vestiges of the beachy feel that we had in our previous home, I’ve also added some more modern touches – it’s a mix of little bit boho, a little bit farmhouse, and a little bit modern beachy, with a healthy dose of colour.

If you’ve been following along for a while then you know that I’ve shared quite a few of my spring projects already and that I’m pretty in love with pink this spring.  I shared my 3D spring art (made with free printables) in this post, as well as my easy/thrifty DIY seasonal patterned peony pillow in this post.

I used a lot of what I had this spring and just added in a few new eclectic pieces.  The throw pillows are from a couple of seasons back – I bought the blue striped large pillows from Tonic Living, and ordered the blush buffalo check material from the same online shop.  I then sewed my own DIY pillow covers with it.  

The new additions this season are that pretty pink vase on the coffee table (found at HomeSense), as well as the rug (which I ordered from Wayfair).

I shared my new rug on Instagram stories, and asked for votes as to whether I should keep the crate full of ferns under the coffee table – and over 2/3 of you voted to ditch it! I was surprised as first, but I actually like the open, airy feel of having nothing under the coffee table now.

The one new beautiful pillow I got is that really long cream woven lumbar pillow – I found it at HomeSense. The pretty floral watercolour pillow was also sewn up by me using some fabric I ordered from Tonic Living a couple of seasons ago. I love it when I can reuse what I have, mix in a few new finds, and get a whole new look!

Clean slipcovers on the couch make a big difference, and I think I’ve finally found the key to keeping our dog off the couch, thanks to a tip given to me by a reader and Instagram friend!  I’m so glad, because washing them has been a lot more onerous then I expected due to our lab, Maple (even though we wipe her down when she comes in).

I’ve shared how I wash our slipcovers (see my Instagram highlights), but I will also be sharing a post soon all about our Farlov sofas because I get so many messages with questions about them!

The tulips are the same faux blooms from Michaels that I used to make this ombre spring wreath.

I still haven’t shared all the details about our entrance.  Now that we’ll be home for a few weeks, I should have some time to fiiiiinaaaaaaallllyyyyy take pictures of all these little projects in this house that I’ve never shared with you.  That box panelled wall is one of my favourite features in our house, and we did a similar one in our dining room and bedroom.  I’ll share the DIY tips for that really soon, as well!

The area that we bunk down as a family to watch movies in the evening is over on this (farlov) sofa in the space that leads from our main living room into our dining area.  It’s such a cozy spot to gather together and all four of us fit on the sofa quite easily (even our lab tries to join us now and then!).

The gallery wall above the sofa is full of big pictures we took on our various travels.  Memories that will sustain us as we stay home for a while; maybe I’ll even have time to get my trip pictures made into digital albums.  Have you ever done that?

That light fixture in our dining room is still a favourite.  I got it through build.com.

Ah…the kitchen.  Where I seem to spend a good chunk of my time at home.  I love it though, and don’t mind being in it at all.  You can see our “before” kitchen here, as well as the full kitchen renovation makeover reveal here.

The best thing about spring is the light! After what always feels like a long winter with so much less light, I adore the light streaming for so many more hours of the day.  What is your favourite part about spring?

The open shelves are one of my favourite parts of the kitchen because it’s so fun to switch them up for each season.  I feel like I’d need open shelves in any kitchen now, after having lived with them for the last two.

I love having our dining area open right onto our kitchen, and don’t miss a formal dining room at all. Of course, I’ve never actually had a house with a formal separate dining room, so you can’t miss what you’ve never had, right?!

I love how it flows right into our TV area, and since I switched around the couch and the TV cabinet, I can easily see my boys if they are watching TV while I’m in the kitchen.  It is kind of open-concept but not entirely open-concept, and it works!

The TV cabinet was a kijiji find just before we moved in.  We showed up to pick it up without any ropes in our truck (we were a little distracted by moving the next day), and the kindly people helped us move it into the truck and gave us ropes.  Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers, right?

There is that light again.

Even in the darkness and uncertainty that we are all facing these days, the light is there.  We just have to focus on it and it will envelop us, burning away that fear and anxiety that we can become bogged down in if we don’t let the light in.
