How to create your own faux stone Easter Bunny using a dollar store bunny through this quick Pottery Barn Easter knockoff DIY project.

Wow, it’s March! The snow is currently falling where we live, and it’s pretty wet, dreary, and cold outside. I’m not discouraged though, because once March arrives I know that Spring can’t be too far behind. In just over a month we will be celebrating Easter! I love when I get to start bringing in some fresh springy colour and decor. I want this year’s Easter decor touches to blend in with the rest of our living and dining room, so I’m going for a more earthy and vintage feel. These faux stone Easter bunnies that I made out of some dollar store Easter bunny finds are the perfect example of neutral, earthy, and vintage feeling Easter decor. They’re also a simple Pottery Barn Knockoff project and I think they look adorable for just a fraction of the price!

My Inspiration: Pottery Barn Stone Easter Bunny Sculptures

As I mentioned, I found the inspiration for this Easter DIY in these stone Easter Bunny sculptures that can be found here at Pottery Barn, retailing for $98 a piece:

While adorable, and a bit larger (and real stone), I think I was able to create a similar feel with a few simple materials I had on hand, as well as some Bunny ‘statues’ I found at my local Dollar. The bunnies I used to create the same kind of feel were $4-5 a piece.

My Knockoff Easter Bunnies:

Here is how they started out:

I began by giving them one coat of Fusion Mineral Paint in Casement.

After letting that dry, I mixed one tsp of Fresco powder with two tsps of Fusion Paint to create the chunky white texture I was looking for.

Lastly, after they were dry, I layered on some ageing wax to create vintage rustic feel.I dabbed it all over the sculpture and then wiped it off until I was happy with the effect.

A Note on Materials:

If you don’t own Fusion Mineral paint or their Fresco powder, you can create a similar effect with leftover white wall paint and/or white craft paint by mixing it with some Plaster of Paris. Check out this article here for my tips for creating textured paint with simple Plaster:
