A Year in Review: The Best of 2014
When I sit back and reflect upon everything that has changed in our home over the course of the past year, I realize that we have made some major changes in a few key rooms during the last 363-ish days, yet I haven’t shared one single big reveal this year.
What kind of blogger am I?
I guess that I better start typing up some loose ends so I can share a reveal, already!?!
But despite the lack of big reveals, it was fun to take a little walk through memory lane and reflect back on all the projects that I did complete and share this year.
Maybe you have been around this whole year and remember these? Or maybe you are new, and these are new to you?
Either way, I hope you enjoy this little trek through the posts and projects of this past year.
I can’t believe it is almost over, already! Can you?!
Aside from the usual holiday projects and crafts this year, our main projects during 2014 were:
1) Creating a fun camp/nautical theme shared bedroom space for our boys. I completed all kinds of DIY projects for this one…
DIY Fabric Covered Cork Board
Easy DIY Wallpaper Backed Bookcase
2) Updating our Master bedroom with a new colour scheme; new bedding; updating the headboard; painting the nightstands and dresser and lightening up the wall paint…
Master Bedroom Inspiration
Refreshing Our Master Bedroom with new Crane & Canopy Bedding
Floor to Ceiling Board and Batten Tutorial
Lightening Up the Master Bedroom with Paint
Coral and Gold Distressed Nightstand Makeover
White Chalky Paint Dresser Makeover
Distressed Chalky Painted Stool
Choosing the Perfect Rug for Your Space
3) Updating the living and dining room and kitchen with new paint (and paneling: also soon to be shared)
4) Creating a Command Central Closet just off the kitchen (which I will be back to reveal to you on Friday)
5) Starting and stalling out on our very long winded kitchen renovation. At least I have some good news to report on that front: We finally, in the past week, have a functional kitchen and I promise that very soon I will start sharing and DIYing the projects that we need to do to take it from functional the finished.
Despite the fact that there were no major “reveals” this year… I did share a lot of projects; and here is a look at ‘your’ favourites from 2014:
Simple and Stunning DIY Envelope Piillows{Freshen Up for Spring}
Chalk Painted Stencilled Filing Cabinet
Decked Out for Summer: Thrifty Ideas for Decking Out Your Deck
Outdoor Dining Chairs from Thrift Store Finds
Lake Cottage Style Summer House Tour
Lightening Up the Master Bedroom with Paint & Tips To Paint Like a PRO
DIY Lumbar Envelope Pillows: The Stars of the Show
DIY Mason Jar Foaming Soap Dispenser {& DIY Foaming Hand Soap}
Pink and Gold Chalk Painted Mason Jars
Our Gold & Blue Christmas Living Room & Home Tour
And now for the year ahead. Wow.
My project goals for 2015 are to:
1) Finish the boys’ bedroom. This involves making a decision about and DIYing their window treatment…and that’s about it.
2) Finish our Master bedroom revamp. This includes sewing some black-out curtains; updating our old floor length mirror, and hopefully installing some kind of closet organization system.
3) Wrap up our kitchen project. This involves a lot, {and I mean A LOT} of projects. So be ready to hear A LOT about it over the next few months.
4) Get my craft room organized and presentable.
5) Sew or purchase some curtains for our living and dining room (and perhaps some very subtle light blocking blinds for the new kitchen windows).
6) Build a surround and install a gas/propane fireplace in our living room. Finger’s crossed that this will involve some bookshelves flanking the new fireplace as well.
Thanks so much for joining me this year on this housie journey. I hope you have found a little inspiration and encouragement to keep moving along on your own projects; I have read and appreciated each and every comment that I have received this year and am so thankful for my readers. I am also continually shocked and honoured by the new readers that choose to start following along with me each and every day and I am looking forward to a dynamite year ahead.
But wait, there’s more!
Some of my favorite bloggy friends are sharing their years in review today too, and believe me, these ladies have had amazing years! You won’t want to miss out on their best posts, so be sure to hop around and check them out!

Wow, Krista I love all of your projects. One thing that strikes me about all that you do is how colorful your projects are – I just love that! Happy New Year to you! I can’t wait to see what amazing stuff you pull off in the new year 🙂
What a year filled with beautiful and colourful DIY, Krista! I love how you incorporate colour into everything you do! Love following you and cant wait to see what all you do this year! (Loved the kitchen sneekpeak on IG!) Happy New Year, friend!
I just love your house, Krista! It is so full of life. You did accomplish a lot this year, and I can’t wait to see your big kitchen reveal! One of the highlights of my year was getting to meet you for real at Haven…I think you and I could definitely be BFFs if you live a few thousand miles closer! This is going to be a great 2015! XO
Krista, I love your beautiful home and all your projects! So glad we travelled together to Atlanta this year. Keep up the good work, girl!
Hugs, Jamie
I love how every one of your posts reflects your eclectic, colorful, and cheerful taste. Every single one of these posts is uniquely you! Love them all!
I guess I never noticed that you never posted a full reveal of your projects because all of your spaces look AMAZING!! I love your use of color and neutrals and someday I hope to have your mad furniture makeover skills. SO glad we got to meet this year and I can’t wait to see you again at Haven {or Vegas?!?} 🙂 xoxo!
What a great (and completely thorough!) list! I adore your home tours… they have so much more color than mine do so it’s always fun to see someone decorate gorgeously but do it differently than me. 🙂 I am so excited to see how your 2015 projects come out!!!
You had such a busy year!! Everything looks beautiful. Happy New Year Krista!

You have really done some amazing things and I can’t wait to see your kitchen. We have been working on ours for almost 2 years. My hubby is definitely burned out. Lol! I am pretty new to your blog so this was fun to read. Happy New Year to you.
