How to Access and Download Vintage Paintings to Print as Art

How to access and download free printable vintage paintings to print as Art through the Public Domain.

I’ve been loving a cozier, more intimate, collected, and vintage style of home decor lately. Warmer earthy colours, rustic textures, and a mix of old and new decor pieces that all blend together to create an eclectic style as unique as you and your home are. The other thing I’m loving about this vintage eclectic style is that it can be super thrifty to implement in your own home.

Vintage Paintings

Vintage paintings (and prints of vintage paintings) work with so many styles from modern through bohemian to farmhouse. I think the reason they traverse various styles in that the imagery often speaks to our desire to connect with our history and our past. Even if we love clean lines and modern styling, there is something ethereal about these vintage scenes that draws us back to a place and time when life was more difficult but less complicated in many ways; simpler and lived ‘in the moment’.

Did you know that you can access and download thousands of beautiful vintage art images through galleries around the world? Images that are a part of the public domain, so you are allowed to print and use them as you wish?! Isn’t that amazing!

I’ve shared a series of six different landscape prints below that you can download yourself, just by clicking on the links below each image to be taken to the original gallery source. Each of the image below are available on the Public Domain and through either the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) or through the National Gallery of Art.

How to Access & Download Free Vintage Art on the Public Domain:

In general any artwork created before 1924 is considered in the public domain, meaning that it has no copyright protection so you can do with it as you wish (i.e. print and use in your home, for free!). Above I’ve listed two galleries that offer free images from the public domain, but there are many more that do. Visit this article for a list of other sources for accessing free downloadable art imagery!

Once you’ve found images on the public domain that you wish to use, you can download them to your computer or directly print them out to use. I’ve taken the prints I shared above and formatted them so that they can more easily fit in standard frames…

To download the prints above, formatted to 8×10 or 5×7 sizes:

For ease of printing, I’ve cropped these slightly to fit standard frames and turned them into PDFs. I’ve added these prints to my free printable library.  You can access my printable library simply by signing up for my email list.

Once you’ve signed up you will receive instructions for how to access the password protected google drive where all of my free printables are stores. These prints are in the folder entitled “Vintage Art Printables”.
