Lake House Summer Home Tour Part Two: Our Living Room & Kitchen
It’s officially summer vacation around here, folks!
And we are EX-CIT-ED!
Yesterday was the last day of school, the forecast is looking better, and I know that summer weather is just around the corner!
On Monday I shared the first part of our summer home tour: our entry hall, dining room, and deck. And today I’m super excited to sharing our summery living room and kitchen as part of the Country Living Simply Summer Home Tours series hosted by friend Nina Hendrick from Nina Hendrick Design and Birch Lane.
If this is your first time here, then welcome!
My name is Krista, and I’ve been blogging for about three years now. I have two young boys (5 and 8), and I work almost full-time as an elementary school teacher. I love decorating, crafts, DIY, room makeovers and small organizing projects and I share all of these along with our journey to turn our builder basic home into our dream home on this blog. We live in a lake front house in a small town in British Columbia, Canada. {You can also read more about me and this blog right here}
So now that I’m not a stranger anymore, come on in!
One of my favourite DIY’s this summer?!
This Pottery Barn Knockoff Faux Succulent Wreath.
Learn how to make your own version here!
I shared the details on our entry hall {including the faux map wallpaper} the other day during the first part of our summer home tour. From our entry we can walk straight ahead into our kitchen or head to the left, into the living room.
Let’s head into the living room first…
A lot of the things in our home are vintage or thrifted finds – such as the waterski above, or the gallery of old oil paintings hanging in our dining room. You can see more of the dining room here.
We recently gave the living room a big makeover as part of the spring One Room Challenge. We got a new sofa, new chairs, new drapes and blinds, and painted the walls as well as some furniture white.
But the coffee table stayed the same (get a similar look here!). It has long been one of my favourite pieces: it is a Craigslist find that I painted out in an oil based paint using Benjamin Moore’s Aegean Teal (the same colour is on our front door).
I made some new DIY envelope pillows with this gorgeous Shibori Indigo fabric that I ordered from Tonic Living Online Fabric Store. I also used the same fabric to create the table runner in our dining room (that I shared the other day).
We also recently installed our new bamboo woven shades and I couldn’t be happier with them! You can read all the details here, but they are the Cordless Woven Shades in Aruba Camel from Blindster.com.
At the end of every day I can’t wait for some relaxing sofa time!! My absolute favourite change to our living room this spring {through our One Room Challenge makeover} is our new Josephine Tufted sofa from Wayfair. I shared all the details about it the other day – hop over here to learn more.
Our gallery wall is new! Get the look with some beautiful prints from Minted…

Pottery Barn York Roll Arm Chairs
From the living room we can head into and through the dining room over to see our summery kitchen!
If you want to see some more details about the dining room pop over to the first part of our summer house tour that I shared the other day.
We completely renovated our kitchen about a year and a half ago and we still love all the choices we made!
If you are interested, you can read all about the kitchen makeover reveal and source guide as well!
My favourite new addition to the kitchen is this Barcelona Light Blue overdyed runner that I ordered from Wayfair.ca {I can’t get over how excited I am that Wayfair is in Canada now!}. I love blue all year around, but it seems especially fitting in the summer. Plus, it’s so cozy and comfy to stand on and the pattern makes it really durable for the kitchen.
I love how open our kitchen is to the dining room. The peninsula is definitely one of our favourite spots in the entire house: my boys sit here all the time while I cook or clean up, and we eat a lot of our causal meals here as well.
I love adding little warm touches of wood to our mostly white kitchen, such as this pretty little cake plate from Birch Lane.
Whew, that was a lot of pictures! Are you ready for some refreshments? Help yourself…
Want to…
And, remember, my friend Nina Hendrick has joined forces with Country Living and Birch Lane to host a tour of 30 amazing bloggers summer homes this week.

Hello, what paint color did you use in the living room? Love everything about it!
Hello:
I loved your choice of blues and white!! So Pretty!
Where did you get the blue pillows on couch
with the circle patterns….so interesting?
Thanks,
Marge
Where did you get the runner in your kitchen. Love it.
Hi Kathy – here is an aff link for it: http://bit.ly/2MmZsm9
I love what you have done with each room. I wish I was as creative as you. Have you ever thought of having plantation shutters installed?
I am in love with this house! It’s beautiful and decorated so perfectly. If you don’t mind me asking, where is the kitchen scale (that’s holding the lemons) from? I have been searching for something like it in that color!
Hi Jenny! It is from a store called Canadian Tire -if you are Canadian you will definitely know it – but I’m not sure of a US source for the same thing. Wish I could be of better help:(
A lot of nice things, like the fabric choices. However, one comment… your art work is not the right scale for your spaces, way to small and trivial. The white frames also lead the art looking un-framed. Suggest a white wash or subtle distressed color.
Hi Susan! Thank you:) I think that in person the frames probably stand out more crisply then they do in the pictures! Thanks for your visit!
Good Morning ~
Your home is just stunning. I always wanted to live by the water, but having 2 homes well $$$
I love the window in your kitchen overlooking the lake, just beautiful..
Your decorating is perfect.
I love Wayfair too.
I redid our bedroom and everything came from Wayfair.
Now we are doing my husbands office/TV room – Again everything we purchased is Wayfair.
Have a wonderful weekend on the Lake.
Much love,
Rose
Hi Rose! Thank you:) This is our full time home – we are fortunate to have a lovely lake only about 15 minutes from the town where we both work. I am so thrilled to have discovered Wayfair too! Such a great source for all kinds of styles and good value:) Take care!!
I don’t even know where to start, I love it all! That map wall is perfection, and your living room- dreamy! The blues throughout your home are just lovely. And your kitchen- beyond words! So much talent, my friend! Thank you for joining me on this tour! xx
Absolutely gorgeous, Krista! I’m totally in love with your living room. It’s so fresh and dreamy!
Your home is beautiful as always, Krista! Love the gold accents in your living room… and you kitchen is gorgeous! Happy summer holidays! xo
Your summer home is gorgeous, Krista! 🙂
