One Room Challenge Week 6/7: Modern Boho Furniture, Rug & Art Choices

Today I’m sharing the furniture, art, and rug choices that we made for our modern boho family room makeover as part of the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge.

If you’ve been following along the past few weeks, then you know that we’ve been working on a complete overhaul of our downstairs family room this spring and I’m getting really excited about sharing the full reveal with you this coming week!  I’m taking part as a guest participant in the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge (also known as the ORC).

If you aren’t familiar with the ORC, it’s a challenge where designers and bloggers attempt to give one space in their homes a complete makeover in a 6 week time period. This time, because of the complications involved with designing and renovating during COVID19, the ORC has extended the timeline to 8 weeks instead of 6.

Which means, that over the past several weeks I’ve been sharing the process of making over our basement family room with you one step at a time.

So far in this series, I have shared…

Today I wanted to show you a peak at some of the finishes I chose to pull this room together.

If you saw my original inspiration board, you may remember some of these…

Golden Select Vinyl Plank Flooring in Smokey Barrel
Laguna Rug from Mohawk Home in 8×10

Gena Sectional from The Brick in Charcoal and matching ottoman
Hal TV Stand by Mistana from Wayfair
Kallax Unit from Ikea

Wall colour similar to Distant Grey by Benjamin Moore

Last week I shared the installation of our new vinyl plank flooring from Golden Select – we are absolutely thrilled with the colour and finish of this floor! It made such a big difference to this space…

We have a new TV stand that I ordered from Wayfair – I love it so much more then I expected, and it was quick and easy to setup…

We got a sectional from The Brick – it is called the Gena sectional in charcoal grey (its part of the Cindy Crawford line at The Brick).  We also ordered the matching ottoman to use with it…

And now to add some colour!

Check out this STUNNING rug that I ordered through Mohawk Home! It’s called Laguna Diamond Head, and I ordered the 8×10 size.  It is SO COZY and plush and lovely… every member of the family adores it!

We put a nice thick rug pad underneath the Laguna Diamond Head rug, so it’s even more cushy and soft!

It was super easy to roll out and cut to size…

And I also ordered some fantastic art prints from Opposite Wall to finish off this space.

I spent some time playing around with different combinations on their website and came up with this for a gallery wall design – with colours that work beautifully with our new rug…

From Left to Right Top to Bottom:

Stunning Reflections
Gentle on the Eyes
No Man’s Land
Free
Ten Feet Tall

I used some white picture frames that we already owned and had in storage to frame the posters that I ordered and it was such an easy way to create a fabulous, custom gallery art wall!

They add the perfect pop of calm, natural colour to our pale grey walls…

I also ordered a trio of black and white prints that I framed in some black Ikea Ribba frames that we also already owned (it was nice to use up things that we had on hand!).  I think they look fabulous over my son’s keyboard. We also already owned the table and stool in the keyboard area.

Prints, left to right:

Chasm
Grande Roue de Montréal
Saddle Up
