Warm Earthy Rustic Fall Home Decor Ideas

The perfect way to bring fall into your home is by adding some warm, earthy tones and rustic fall home decor, including a mix of modern and vintage touches.

Hello, and welcome to our Fall home tour! Or at least, welcome to part one of it: today I’m sharing the fall touches I’ve added to our living room decor. I’m loving the addition of some warm, earthy colours in our fall decorating this year. Our new build is most certainly starting to feel a lot more like ‘us’ these days. We still have some projects to tackle in this space (more about that below), but with the addition of some warmer tones it’s definitely feeling cozier and more welcoming.

The temperatures have cooled down after a long, hot summer here on Vancouver Island and I finally ran our fireplace last night while we settled in for a cozy evening, listening to the rain pour down outside. Warm, earthy and rustic with a mix of vintage and modern touches is how I’d describe our fall decor; and I’m excited to share the changes I’ve made since our summer tour!

This week I’m joining a group of talented blogging friends who are all sharing part of their home decorated for Fall. Today I’m sharing a peak at our great room, and tomorrow I’m going to share some changes that I’ve made to our dining room since the last tour. I will also share a look at our kitchen on Wednesday and then some outdoor fall decor on Thursday. So it’s a full week of fall decor ideas around here!

For the great room, you may have seen our warm, earthy, rustic fall mantel in the post I shared last week. Are you loving the warmer and darker tones that are trending these days as much as I am?

As much as I adore light, bright and airy decor, I also love when a room feels like it could envelop you with warmth like a cozy, chunky throw blanket. Speaking of throw blankets, I did pick up a couple of new throws to add to help create that cozy fall feel in our home. I especially love this cream and gold one from Urban Barn…

And this sweet but soft and simple find from HomeSense. Are you as inspired by these earthy greens for fall?

Earthy tones in the living room with muted greys and greens.

While I did pick up a few new things, a lot of our decor was repurposed from previous seasons. I also made these new textured vases out of thrift store finds and some leftover paint and baking soda. Read the full tutorial here.

Blue/grey vases with wheat grass and dried flowers.

I stuffed almost all my vases with dried florals this season – such a great way to add that fall feeling to your home. If you have flowers left in your garden, you might even be able to dry some yourself!

This little vintage oil painting will be uploaded to the printable library really soon for my email subscribers. I’m planning to share a series of free vintage oil painting printables.

And… how about the sofa?!

Yes, it’s the biggest change in this room since summer! I’ll be back soon with a full review on it, but for now I’ll tell you that it’s the Cleo Rattan Sofa from Eternity Modern, and we absolutely LOVE IT! Not only is it beautiful and well-made but it’s super comfortable. I can’t get over the caning.

A basket filled with blankets is beside the couch.

I’m still not set on our coffee table, and thinking about staining it a bit more brown to tie in with the mantel colour. On the other hand, there is a lot of wood already in this space, so I’m also keeping my eye out for something unique and original (read: vintage) on Facebook marketplace.

Real sunflowers are such a perfect symbol of early fall; I hope I can keep finding them for several weeks yet as they tie in perfectly with all the yellow and gold tones in our fall decor. What is your favourite fall bloom?

The new great room is totally open to the dining room; I’ll be sharing my fall updates to that space tomorrow.

My favourite tips for bringing a fall feel to your home, without getting super “theme-y”:

  1. Natural Elements  – I love seasonal ones like Sunflowers, but also give dried florals, grasses, and wheat a try for a really authentic fall feel. It’s like you’ve brought the outdoors in… plus, they last all season long. I also love other natural elements like acorns, pinecones, and warm woods or wicker baskets.
  2. Candles – I picked up a couple new candles for fall, one for the kitchen and one for the powder room. They come in amazing “fall” scents these days, and the flickering flame adds a bit of warmth and ambience as the days cool down and get shorter.
  3. Throws and Pillows – These are always my favourite way to change up our decor for the seasons. Bring in some warmer fall colours like golds, browns, reds, rust, and greens. Plus the addition of cozier textures adds a feeling of warmth and makes you want to curl up and relax with a good book and warm drink.
  4. Printables – A cute way to add a nod to fall without going over the top with artwork changes. Make sure to sign up for my email list so you can access all my free fall printables! I’m adding a new series of vintage oil painting printables later this week.
  5. Pumpkins – You don’t have to go over the top, but a few well-placed pumpkins (especially done in rustic or cozy finishes like wood, twine, or sweaters) go a long way to bring a fall feel to your home without getting too themed or cheesy.

Well there we go! A little tour of our great room all cozied up for Fall. We are all feeling so much more settled in this house and I’m truly looking forward to enjoying each of the seasons in this space.

I’ve gathered some finds if you are hoping to add some cozy, warm, earthy rustic touches to your home this fall…

Want to remember this? Just PIN it for later!

After a really busy year of building and moving we decided to basically take the summer off of home related projects, and now that Fall has arrived I’m really excited about getting back to some of the projects and ideas on my list. I can’t wait to tackle so many things; from organizing all the closets to installing paneling and wallpaper and building a fence in the backyard. I also want to finish off the boy’s bedrooms upstairs, and give our landing/hallway up there a fun update.

If you would like to keep up with our projects and progress, plus gain access to all my free printables, then I welcome you to sign up for my email list. I promise I’ll never spam you or sell your info… just a simple way to keep in touch and say thanks for reading.

I also shared our dining room ready for Autumn, including a few big changes in it since the summer (as well as my plans to change it up further this fall). I’ve included my best tips for mixing old (vintage) and new pieces to create a space you love…

How To Mix Old And New To Create A Space You Love poster.

And tomorrow I’ll be sharing our kitchen…
