I clearly remember going off to University as a young, fresh 18 year old and purchasing my first giant wall calendar. It had all four months of the semester in a big grid format. I would faithfully come home from my first day of classes and fill in all my assignments and papers, quizzes and exams, so they would be right there in front of me and I couldn’t forget a thing. Even back in the days when the only human I really had to worry about organizing and managing was myself, I still relied on a big wall calendar.

And today, in the age of online calendars, I still like to have a big family wall calendar organizer in plain view of everyone. It helps keep us all on track… even our boys. And it ensures that we can’t forget important things like garbage day, field trips , or birthday parties. Because truthfully, as much as I love being organized, I’m also a creative type and I live in my head a lot… which can lead to some inattention and forgetfulness at times.

A few years ago I had a major faux pas that really sat with me.
We had some sweet little boys living down the road that my boys played with often, and they had invited us to one of their birthday parties toward the end of the school year. It was a busy time of year, and although I had written it on my small calendar, I inadvertently FORGOT all about it. And the boys missed it…
I felt terrible for their little friend. Boo! I knew that I needed something a little more “in my face” to make sure that something like that never happened again, so the idea for this giant DIY weekly planner chalkboard was born.

Chalkboard calendar looks cool, but it comes quickly quite messy. I like most of that post-it calendar, as they are easy to replace.
