Decorating: Some DIY Art for the Laundry Room

The “heavy” work in the laundry room is done and it is time for the fun stuff! Dressing a newly revamped room is one of my favourite things to do. Seeing it all come together makes all the extra effort worth it. I’m here today to share some of what we used as art in our laundry room.

On the long wall in the room we hung our Upcycled Oar with keyhooks and a cute little whitewashed cottage sign that we picked up at our neighbours moving sale in the fall.

Across from this wall and above the black coat hooks we put up some shadow boxes that we had also used in the previous laundry room.

A quick solution was to give them a couple of coats of white paint (letting a little of the old colour show through in spots). A fun way to recycle your precious baby clothes as art – they are my favourite thing in the room because they display some of our sons’ tiny baby clothes and shoes and I love this daily reminder of the boys as babies.

Near the washer and dryer we also put back up a cute little “Stain Removal” guide that we have owned since our very first house.

On the other side of the laundry counter I wanted something of a similar size, so I painted an old black frame white and created a printable laundry themed word sign using PicMonkey. Feel free to copy and print it if you would like to use it in your own laundry room. Just right-click on the image below and save it to your hard drive, then print at home.

The new laundry counter got some accessories as well.

This Muskoka/Adirondack chair tile art piece was a gift from my Mom when we moved into our lake house.

Laundry Room Art Beach Sign at thehappyhousie

This beach sign was picked up at the same neighbour’s moving sale that we got the cottage sign from. Looking at some ‘beachy’ accessories when I am doing laundry reminds me of fun and sunshine (instead of the pile of clean laundry that I need to fold and put away…).

We also picked up some different storage baskets, some of which I created simple labels for (like the ones I made for the pantry). I will be back this weekend with more details and pictures of the finished room as a whole!

What sort of things have you done to decorate your laundry room? Have you put up art? What did you use? I would love to hear from you!

Thanks for reading. And remember, my housie friends, HOME isn’t built in a day. Enjoy the journey.

    1. Lol! My last laundry room was in an unfinished basement too… pretty thrilled to have an actual “room” to work with this time around!

  1. I love the baby clothes idea. I might have to steal that one! Our laundry rooms decoration? The new washer and dryer we just got. Other than that, it’s just a very messy beige room!

    1. Hi Andrea, thanks for stopping by!! I love looking at the baby clothes everyday… reminds me of my sweet tiny babies that are quickly growing up. Ours was a pretty messy beige room a lot of the time too… now it is just a colorful room that I try to keep tidy! (I love my countertop but have to be careful it doesn’t become a clutter magnet).
